Unit04_ Inspiration : <Antifreeze>

As the title of the animation comes from this song, the lyrics of Antifreeze inspired me to create the log-line and synopsis. It has been considered one of the best songs of Black Skirt, the most influential in the Korean indie music scene. Like antifreeze that prevents the coolant in a car from freezing, it is a song that has been loved by many people for a long time due to its lyrical lyrics and metaphorical expression of warm hearts and hopes that do not freeze in contrast to the cruel apocalypse (ice age).

What if our generation is the last?

What if another ice age comes to us?

There is no love that lasts forever,

but I'm looking for the one who will wait for that love

In particular, the last part of the song, " What if our generation is the last? / What if another ice age comes to us? / There is no love that lasts forever, but I'm looking for the one who will wait for that love" became a key motif in the initial setting, and that’s how I came to create the story under the assumption of, “What if an ice age comes in the 21st century?” I wanted to capture on screen the warm and pure hearts that contrast with the cold reality of the ice age.

A Man who covered the song

Contrary to the hopeful lyrics, in the end, Min does not know Brian's whereabouts, and it is a very vain ending. In fact, the ending was decided in advance and the script and storyboard were created. However, the fact that there was a letter and a cassette tape for Min on Brian's desk suggests that Brian left the house before the blizzard hit and expected Min to come, or that he had prepared a letter and a cassette tape for Min someday but disappeared or died due to the heavy snow, giving the audience a kind of 'Open Ending'.
