Unit04_ Other Inspiration : Pandemic due to Covid-19

Starting in mid-November 2019, COVID-19 began in China and spread around the world. For this reason, social distancing was a long time in Korea from 2020 to 2021 before I came to the UK. Due to the nature of the virus, which is highly contagious and volatile, it was common to have to self-quarantine due to contact with a confirmed patient.
Although the initial inspiration and motivation was <Antifreeze> of The Black Skirts, Min and Brian's situation I had made reminded me the social distancing and self-quarantine because of Covid 19. It was very similar to the situation Min and Brian face in the animation's story, in that they are somewhat restricted from going outside and communicating with others.
To explain about my individual experience, me and my first boyfriend had to have self- quarantine for 1 week even though his birthday coinciding with our self-quarantine. As in the above scene, I congratulated him on his birthday by video call.
This experience has been a good resource for this animation project, given that it was an unusual thing to imagine in normal situations unless it was social distancing or self-isolation caused by the pandemic. And as this is an unusual situation, this is also my favorite scene in that it can show viewers a hopeful and dramatic production in the desperate situation of the characters.
Besides my personal experience, the pandemic situation gave many people an unusual experience. The social distancing phenomenon has affected people not only in Korea but also around the world. Although it has been effective in preventing the spread of the virus, it has been affected by a combination of negative emotions such as social isolation, fear of infection, and economic anxiety overall.
According to the above article, people, especially adolescents and young adults, tended to feel more isolated, emotional or economic anxiety, stress, and depression.
Karen Rudolph, Phd. said, "During their teenage years, they take on an increasingly important role in their children's lives in terms of time spent with their peers and relying on their peers to gain intimacy and support."
Considering that Min and Brian's age, they must have the feelings of isolation due to the lack of communication with others. Thus, I could understand their sentiment while researching the resources about the change of mental health influenced by social distancing phenomenon. And I could make the 2D animatic scene image with the colors and light reflecting the flow of Min's emotion following her situation.
